Your Preferences Vs. Other People’s Opinions

Planning a wedding can definitely be stressful, but what can make it worse is everyone’s unwanted opinions that come with it. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and keep in mind that they’re just trying to help make your day a success, but you know the saying, opinions are like……(fill in the blank).

I like to remind my couples that there are two buckets to put everything into when planning a wedding: small and big. Opinions fall into the small bucket—so don’t sweat them! When someone comes to you with an opinion just nod, say great idea and leave it at that. Most people will forget their gem of an opinion that they just had to share, which might completely contradict what you actually want for your wedding. On the off chance that someone is persistent (looking at you MOBs out there ;), feel free to use your Event Coordinator as a scapegoat! Say we brought that idea to her/him and he/she wouldn’t let us do it—I personally am totally fine with that! I don’t mind being the bad guy to help make your day what YOU want it to be--just give me a heads up so I'm in the 'know'! Opinions shouldn't be something that causes fights or stress, especially with the people closest to you leading up to your big day.

Remember, this wedding is a testament of your love and it shouldn’t be anything less than how you dreamt it! When you get into serious people pleasing and trying to accommodate every opinion, you can lose what was special to you.
